The A, B, C's of Parenting.........A
Most things that we do in life require some kind of training. Whether it be driving a car, using a stove, operating a computer, participating in sports, music, or any other kind of extra curricular activity...these all involve us being trained or given some instruction before participating in the event. One thing that people can do without any kind of formal training is become a parent. Being a parent is something that doesn't require any prior instruction and I've often heard new parents say, "No one ever told me about that." Being a parent is often a time of trial and error to see what works best with your child. The best book for parents to use to find the latest and greatest parenting techniques is something that's been around for a long time but is often not at the top of the list. This great book is the BIBLE. The Bible is full of advice and lessons for parents. One of my favorite verses is Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it."
I have found a neat book that goes through the alphabet offering words of advice and scripture references for parents. Since our 4 & 5 year old preschool classes learn the alphabet, I thought I would share these lit bits of encouragement and advice that go along with each letter just like I'm sharing with my parents in my newsletters.
A...Always have a kind attitude and loving affirmation available.
A is for my amazement with your angelic attitude.
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus." Philippians 2:5

WHO DEY!
Since our Preschool hasn't started yet, I thought I'd write about something from home. I guess you can say we're a football family. We are definitely Cincinnati Bengals's fans!! We enjoy getting dressed up in our jerseys and watching the Bengals games. Tonight is the last pre-season game and then they'll be ready for the hopefully winning regular season!! Last year, L.J. and I got to experience our first tail gate party. That's what I"ll call it....an experience I'll never forget. We parked in a lot in Kentucky and what we saw when we got out were true fans in my eyes. Some were playing cornhole, others were sitting in lawn chairs eating the bean soup that was being warmed over a fire...all in the middle of a parking lot. We were offered the bean soup but declined, not sure exactly what was in it!! We even got to see an orange car made up to look like a Bengal tiger. We arrived about an hour before game time and soaked up all that was around us. Pretty soon, everyone was packing up their chairs, and gathering up their blankets getting ready for the hike over the bridge into Ohio and straight to Paul Brown Stadium. On the way over the bridge, my uncle pointed out the tents of homeless people who lived on the side of the hill heading down to the Ohio River. I'd never seen this before and it made me thankful for my home. Once inside the stadium, the atmosphere was that of excitement and anticipation for the game and all I could see as I looked around was orange and black. The Bengals went on to lose that game, but the experience was amazing and one I'll not soon forget. It just makes me think sometimes about having the same excitement and anticipation for Jesus and trying to spread that around just like we do for other things.
